Takashi Miike’s Visitor Q - One Messed Up Movie

I have been on the hunt for a movie that would offend, shock or disgust me so much that I would turn it off. I have come closer to this goal by immersing myself in Asian cinema. Our friends in the East have some messed up ideas when it comes to films and I don’t think anyone does it as messed up as Takashi Miike. Anyone who has seen Audition and the extremely over-the-top and therefore not offensive Ichi The Killer will have a grasp on what I’m saying. But nothing could have prepared me for the depravity, the shock-factor and the lengths Visitor Q would strain so hard to go to.

Anyone who has seen the film will know what I mean and for anyone who hasn’t, if you plan to - beware. There is so much in this film likely to offend and disgust (and most of it is shown in most of it’s glory) that I would be very cautious. Although it wasn’t enough to make me reach my goal of turning a film off because of it’s content it came dangerously close. It’s a hard film to stomach even for the strongest of film lovers.

So if you are looking for a test of your film watching ability then look no further than the ingeniously depraved Visitor Q.

I’m willing to take the challenge. I plan on watching Audition tomorrow evening sometime, then I’ll shoot for this one.

By the way, try Jodorowsky’s El Topo - probably not enough to make you turn it off, but considering you’re a Lynch fan, plus you want depravity, you may like this: El Topo.

Yeah I am on the lookout for shocking films like I said. Speaking of that, Andrew, I just yesterday bought Very Bad Things:)

Very Bad Things gets majorly fucked up.

Tried Visitor Q and turned it off. It had nothing to do with the shock value, I just wasn’t all that interested. It was kind of boring. But hey, to each his own.

Our Partners

Row Three is a collaborative film website that aims to foster discussion and community for those who like their cinema a bit Hollywood, a bit indie and a bit foreign. Formed and run by a collective of writers who try to stray from summer blockbusters and the so-called "popcorn" flicks in favor of a bit more upscale fare. We are not always successful in this endeavor; nonetheless we all love to talk movies and we hope to build a place for everyone to join in on the conversation.
