MUST see movies

Psycho

As promised I have come up with another film related list to post here on FilmGrotto, this time highlighting the films I feel, whether I love them or hate them, you simply have to see. I limited myself to 25 for easier reading and feedback. Again I love lists for the simple fact that it generates great discussion so take a look and see what you think.

In no particular order:

  • Alien
  • The Shawshank Redemption
  • Citizen Kane
  • Once Upon A Time In The West
  • 2001: A Space Odyssey
  • Taxi Driver
  • Pulp Fiction
  • The Godfather
  • The Exorcist
  • Psycho
  • Donnie Darko
  • Blade Runner
  • The Shining
  • A Clockwork Orange
  • Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • City of God
  • Jaws
  • The Wizard of Oz
  • Raging Bull
  • Blue Velvet
  • Fight Club
  • The Matrix
  • Brazil
  • Die Hard
  • Monty Python and the Holy Grail

So there you have it; the 25 films I think you simply have to see. Feel free to come up with your own list, any that you would include that I have or some I didn’t mention or left out. Any there that don’t deserve to be? Make your voice heard!

I take it this means you’ve finally seen Jaws?

I actually prefer Life of Brian over Holy Grail but I can understand it being on your list.

Yeah I DID finally see Jaws - bloody fantastic film. Can’t believe I took THIS long to see it.

Yeah I LOVE Life Of Brian too but I just feel there is something more overly special about the Holy Grail that warrants it to be on the list.

Great list! Not a stinker in the bunch!

I especially like that you have 3 Kubrick films on the list, not to mention CITY OF GOD (which was awesome).

As for HOLY GRAIL or LIFE OF BRIAN, both were excellent (with the Python Troupe at the top of their creative form for each one), so you can’t go wrong with either of them.

Yeah, with the exception of The Exorcist (which I unbashedly dislike) I love every one of those films.

How about this; if you had to pick just ONE of those films that EVERYONE film fan should see what would it be? It’s really difficult but I would have to say Citizen Kane.

It’s hard to argue with Citizen Kane. That movie set so many standards, and is such a landmark film, that it is probably at the top of the ‘must-see’ list.

However, my personal choice would be The Godfather, only because I consider it the greatest movie ever made

I’ve seen ‘em all except Holy Grail, because I can’t stand the Monty Python humour. But I will see it one day since so many rate it highly.

Row Three is a collaborative film website that aims to foster discussion and community for those who like their cinema a bit Hollywood, a bit indie and a bit foreign. Formed and run by a collective of writers who try to stray from summer blockbusters and the so-called "popcorn" flicks in favor of a bit more upscale fare.
