On The Movie Agenda

I just thought I’d do a general and personal post on what is on the movie watching agenda for me. The films I am planning on going to see at the cinema and planning on watching on DVD at home in the upcoming week.

Tonight

It’s a toss up between the special edition DVD of Roman Polanski’s classic Chinatown that I bought last week and haven’t watched and a re-watch of David Slade’s excellent Hard Candy. Perhaps if any of you reply before the nights up you can help me decide on that one.

Between tomorrow and Thursday

I have been meaning to revisit Terry Gilliam’s futuristic masterpiece Brazil (god I love that movie) and also one of the best films of 2006 United 93. Oh and I have The Good, The Bad and the Ugly there to watch (for the first time, believe it or not! I have been put off by theĀ length and personally it takes a lot for me to be motivated to watch such an often hard to get through genre as the Western). Again throw you thoughts in as to which one I should watch in the next couple of days (perhaps my diary will permit me to watch all three!)

Friday

Cinema-wise it’s a no brainer - American Gangster opensĀ around these parts and I will be first in line to see it (fingers crossed it isn’t a let down like I have read around the web). As far as DVD goes for a Friday night - maybe something like the ever-entertaining Raiders of the Lost Ark or the very fun Sin City (which I haven’t seen in ages!).

Saturday and Sunday

Maybe that’s a bit far ahead to be thinking about already but perhaps a hilarious comedy such as Monty Python and the Holy Grail or Clerks (1 OR 2, both are hilarious). And for Sunday perhaps a nice, childhood favourite such as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Let me know your thoughts (if you have any interest in knowing what movies I am going to be watching) and who knows; this may be a weekly feature for me here on Film Grotto.

This could be a really cool idea if you mention what you think of the movies afterwards. It would take a fair amount of time to review all the movies all the time but it would be interesting to hear quickly what you think about some of the older movies that you watch on DVD.

Really though, anything that strikes your mind is fair game.

Yeah that was what I was actually thinking of doing. A sort of mini-review - perhaps a “the good. the bad and overall” type of thing.

If you’re going to watch “Good Bad Ugly,” you should set aside an entire weekend and watch the whole trilogy in order:

    Fistful of Dollars
    A Few Dollars More
    Good bad and Ugly.

then if you like them, check out “Duck You Sucker” and then download the lates movie club podcast.

Wow. You got some great ones in the lineup here. Hard to pick one over another, but since you’ve never seen The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, that might be the best way to go.

Row Three is a collaborative film website that aims to foster discussion and community for those who like their cinema a bit Hollywood, a bit indie and a bit foreign. Formed and run by a collective of writers who try to stray from summer blockbusters and the so-called "popcorn" flicks in favor of a bit more upscale fare. We are not always successful in this endeavor; nonetheless we all love to talk movies and we hope to build a place for everyone to join in on the conversation.
