Film Grotto Podcast Episode 1

Here it finally is. I’ve told a few people that I have been planning on doing a podcast.

Let me know what you think about it. I’m trying to decide it this is something I want to do on a weekly, bi-weekly or just as a one shot.

Show Notes:

I don’t have time right now as creating the podcast took me longer than I thought it would… go figure. So here is what is in the podcast without times. I’ll post times as I have the time. ;)

Keep up the good work, mate. It’s always a pretty ballsy move to make a podcast and 9 out of 10 times they turn out bad, but this turned out very well for a first time (although investing in a second voice, just to stimulate conversation and add another dimension wouldn’t hurt).

Thanks for the comment Jonathan. There is some stuff I don’t like in it but I’m going to chalk them up to nerves plus it is hard to talk for 20+ minutes into a mike by myself.

I am going to be looking for a second person but I want to make sure its someone who somewhat matches my movie tastes.

My plan right now is to keep doing this as long as time permits.

I tried to subscribe but the link doesn’t work, so I downloaded it directly from your site.

Thanks for downloading it. I’ll set up the subscribing in the next couple of days. My plan is to do the next episode on Tuesday or Wednesday next week as long as everything goes well. The subscribing plus having it set up in iTunes should be done before then.

Feel free to let me know how I can improve. I appreciate any and all constructive criticism.

OK. Not bad for a first timer. My suggestions:

    1. Slow down. You are talking too fast, not enough pauses, inflection or emphasis for your main points or conclusions.

    2. Maybe you need something to break up the segments in your show.

    3. Every podcast has some unrelated pop/rock music to start and end the show. It would be nice to hear some film score or film-related songs instead.

Very difficult to present a podcast alone. Good decision to keep it short while you’re finding your feet.

    Look forward to Episode 2.

    Cool, thanks for the suggestions.

    1) I’m going to chalk this up to nerves mostly. It is actually very nerve wracking to do this for the first time. Hopefully my nerves calm down and this fixes itself. I’m going to be trying to make an effort though to slow it down. I think instead of 3 or 4 topics in 20 minutes I’m just going to do 1 or 2. This might help also.

    2) I’ll think on this one. I thought about it a bit but decided against it as I was keeping it shorter. Perhaps a 20 seconds or so of music might be good.

    3) The intro was actually from John Carpenter’s In The Mouth of Madness. The outro (is that even a word) was from The Big Lebowski. I just couldn’t find on short notice theme music from the other movies. The music will always be somehow movie related.

Thanks for listening and I hope I keep them interesting enough for people to listen too.

Great choice with the JC In the Mouth of Madness intro! A total ‘Enter Sandman’ rip off, but great none the less!

I remember seeing that movie for the first time and being excited that Carpenter was back in form. In fact, I used a piece of the score in our ‘Running Tunnel’ short film over at Film Junk.

    Keep up the good work!
