Weekly DVD Pick - Dog Bite Dog

Dog Bite DogI’m a bit rushed right now so I’m going to keep this pick pretty short. I’ve had Dog Bite Dog sitting on my shelf for a while now yet I have not gotten around to watching it yet. Dragon Dynasty is finally releasing it in North America and from everything I’ve heard it is worth checking out. Here is the official synopsis:

Pang Jr., a young killer from Cambodia, arrived Hong Kong to assassinate the wife of a judge. But once Pang finished his job, he got into a misunderstanding with his agent and was left astray on the city’s unnfamiliar streets.

At the same time, cop Sam and his team of detectives, Lam, Keo, Cheung and Wai, got their orders and arrived the crime scene to investigate. Wai soon found Pang with his intuition and started pursuit. Terrified, Pang fled to a refuse dump in the countryside, where he accidentally met Yue. Yue was an immigrant who had just arrived in Hong Kong from China, and her father had raped her. Pang could not tolerate Yue’s suffering and killed her father; Pang promised the woman that he would next take her to Cambodia so they could start a new and happy life together.

By this time, Wai and his colleagues tracked down the couple. Pang, like an injured beast, held on to Yue and killed his way out - he killed Wai’s colleagues one by one and escaped to Cambodia. Wai saw his friends and partners being killed and was filled with grief, swearing that he would kill Pang himself even if they were at the ends of the Earth.

In Cambodia, due to his serious crimes in Hong Kong and international warrants for his arrest, Pang had nowhere to stay in his hometown. He could only take Yue with him to live on the run. Soon Wai pursued the couple to Cambodia and found the first trace of Pang’s trail: the owner of a boxing ring in the countryside, i.e. the killer’s agent.

Wai used all means to force the boxing ring owner to reveal Pang’s whereabouts.

Finally, Pang returned to his hometown - he and Yue had been on the run for 9 months, and Yue was pregnant with Pang’s baby and it was nearly due. But Pang was quickly surrounded by the police and was driven to a wall. For the sake of his soon-to-be-born baby, Pang accepted the risk that this could be his final killing deal: to kill Wai or be killed by Wai.

The two men became like two wild dogs to attack each other, neither one wanting to stop until the other side fell!

Dog Bite Dog sounds like an interesting gritty crime thriller that based on reviews is worth checking out.

Row Three is a collaborative film website that aims to foster discussion and community for those who like their cinema a bit Hollywood, a bit indie and a bit foreign. Formed and run by a collective of writers who try to stray from summer blockbusters and the so-called "popcorn" flicks in favor of a bit more upscale fare. We are not always successful in this endeavor; nonetheless we all love to talk movies and we hope to build a place for everyone to join in on the conversation.
