Weekly DVD Pick - Murder Party

Murder PartyAs you know, each week I pick one DVD out of the new releases to highlight. Usually I try to pick something different than what everyone else is telling you is worth a purchase. This week is no different I’m betting that you haven’t heard of this movie before unless you have been following the Toronto After Dark news that I’ve been posting. This weeks DVD is none other than the closing movie for Toronto After Dark, Murder Party.

I was lucky enough to catch this a little while ago and I can say that it is a fun little horror movie. I will say that it is not a movie that is meant to scare you. It is a fun horror flick that takes jabs at the amateur art community. The basic premise is that a regular boring guy picks up an invitation to a Murder Party. Since he is a boring loner (his only friend seems to be his cat) he decides to go to the party. The party consists of some amateur artists who have decided to murder someone in the name of art. Things go bad for everyone and a lot of cheesy fun happens.

I’m not going to say its the best horror movie out there. Some of the action sequences were pretty bad and the whole premise seemed a bit contrived but if you have a group of people together who want to a fun little flick you could do a lot worse just don’t expect a lot of scares.

Row Three
Our Partners

Row Three is a collaborative film website that aims to foster discussion and community for those who like their cinema a bit Hollywood, a bit indie and a bit foreign. Formed and run by a collective of writers who try to stray from summer blockbusters and the so-called "popcorn" flicks in favor of a bit more upscale fare. We are not always successful in this endeavor; nonetheless we all love to talk movies and we hope to build a place for everyone to join in on the conversation.
