Indie Films Make It Big

Dan In Real LifeI caught a couple of movies last night, the first was We Own the Night which was totally forgettable and Michael Clayton which may end up being my favorite “Hollywood” movie of the year. Before both movies I ended up seeing a couple of trailers that got me thinking about how the light sappy (in a good way) independent film style has reached the big time. I really blame it all on Little Miss Sunshine. I enjoyed Little Miss Sunshine a lot and would place it on my top 10 from last year but I’m starting to get tired of this type of movie.

Hollywood has always been really good at beating movie trends to death and it seems this style of movie is going to be the next to be shown over and over again until people no longer want to see it.

I think Sideways had a lot to do with it as well.

You are probably right. I still haven’t gotten around to seeing that either. I think its mostly because I just got tired of seeing that style of film and need a break.

I was trying to remember the other movie trailer that I saw and it was the Jack Nicholson & Morgan Freeman The Bucket List (http://imdb.com/title/tt0825232/). I’d post the trailer but work blocks YouTube. :(

Our Partners

Row Three is a collaborative film website that aims to foster discussion and community for those who like their cinema a bit Hollywood, a bit indie and a bit foreign. Formed and run by a collective of writers who try to stray from summer blockbusters and the so-called "popcorn" flicks in favor of a bit more upscale fare. We are not always successful in this endeavor; nonetheless we all love to talk movies and we hope to build a place for everyone to join in on the conversation.
