Weekly DVD Pick - Death Proof

My pick for this week will likely be frowned upon by a few people. There are more than a few people who call Death Proof boring and there are also those who are boycotting both Grindhouse DVDs since they are splitting Death Proof and Planet Terror into two DVD releases. No matter what, I am looking forward to popping Death Proof into the player in the next couple of days to see just what Tarantino had to cut out for the theatrical release.

Back when I reviewed Grindhouse I complained a bit about the non action scenes being a bit slow and how I felt that Tarantino actually created a “grindhouse” movie while Planet Terror was more of just an over the top zombie comedy. I’m really interested to see if I still feel this way coming up or if the extended version balances out the action with the talking scenes better.

I should also mention the lack of the trailers on the DVD release. The whole double dipping thing does bug me when it comes to DVD releases. I really don’t have a problem with the two movies being split into 2 seperate releases but I do believe that they should also have split the trailers on those DVDs. I know they will eventually release a combined overall Grindhouse DVD with everything and it will be a shame when I don’t buy it because I already have the previous releases. There is not much I can do though. I want to see the extended versions and I’d much rather put my one time money into buying than renting. All I can really say is Weinsteins, you suck for not releasing the trailers now. I’m not going to boycott your DVDs but that doesn’t change the fact that you suck.

Row Three
Our Partners

Row Three is a collaborative film website that aims to foster discussion and community for those who like their cinema a bit Hollywood, a bit indie and a bit foreign. Formed and run by a collective of writers who try to stray from summer blockbusters and the so-called "popcorn" flicks in favor of a bit more upscale fare. We are not always successful in this endeavor; nonetheless we all love to talk movies and we hope to build a place for everyone to join in on the conversation.
