Weekly DVD Pick - ATHF:MFTOD, Inland Empire & The Lookout

Weekly DVD Pick - ATHF:MFTOD, Inland Empire & The LookoutAfter this week I’m going to start keeping track of DVDs I pick up each week. My original plan was that I should buy each movie that I have as a Weekly DVD Pick. Unfortunately though there have been a few weeks where I’ve purchased more than just one movie. So starting next week the Weekly DVD Pick will become the Latests DVD Purchase.

So this week I either purchased or ordered three movies. They are Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie for Theaters on DVD, Inland Empire and The Lookout. I think this post shows that I like at least more than one style of movie.

I’ll do the The Lookout first. I saw it in theatre and it was a good little Noir style film with good acting by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Jeff Daniels. The story revolves around an ex-athlete who has ended up with brain damage and has trouble remembering and concentrating. He is drawn in to a plot to rob the bank at which he is the night janitor. I wouldn’t go into this movie looking for big shocks or twists. What it is, is a movie that really shows the effects of a mental handicap and a bit of a thriller. As I’ve said the acting is superb. Both Daniels and Gordon-Levitt really knock it out of the park.

Now for Aqua Teen… I originally watched the complete series in one weekend and somewhat regret doing that. By the end of the series my mind was pretty much fried. I actually had a chance to see the movie while it was out in theatre and it was an okay movie. It really felt stretched and it definitely has its problems but there are some really good laughs in it. The biggest one comes right off the bat with the opening Let’s go out to the theatre bit. Truthfully though the main reason I’ve picked this up is the fact that the sticker on the front say that the DVD contains the complete 80 minute deleted movie. Thats right its not just the deleted scenes but the complete deleted movie. I have no idea what it means but its caught my interest. Perhaps there is a second whole Aqua Teen movie that is the second DVD. Once I know I’ll let you all know.

Inland Empire has been on my radar for a while. I’ve tried to see it twice unsuccessfully in theatre. All I really know about is is that its a David Lynch film and one that Kurt keeps talking about so I picked it up. So far Kurt hasn’t steered me wrong and I doubt that he will this time. I’ve enjoyed each of Lynch’s films before.

So there you have it. Three movies this week. I’m not sure what I’ll be picking up next week. It looked pretty sparse so perhaps I’ll pick up something old that has been on my list for a long time.

I can’t even stress how awesome of a movie The Lookout is. I just watched it again last night and fell in love with it all over again.
