Weekly DVD Pick - Miller’s Crossing
The Coen Brothers have created some wonderful cinema. Somehow though one of their movies just never seems to get the recognition that it deserves. That movie is Miller’s Crossing. Miller’s Crossing tells the story of Tom Regan (Gabriel Byrne), the chief advisor to Leo (Albert Finney), the head of the Irish Mafia. The story focuses on a mob war between the Italians and Irish with Tom Regan thrown in the middle. Verna (Marcia Gay Harden) is the love interest of both Tom and Leo who causes the split between them. Is Tom still loyal to Leo or has he truly gone over and is working for Casper (John Polito) and the Italians.
The title refers to the location in the movie which is visited twice. I don’t want to spoil just what happens but both times each scene is set up and filmed so perfectly that they are probably close to my favorite scene out of any movie. The Coen Brothers always create wonderful characters and the dialogue is top notch. Not to mention the fact that this movie is both complex and simple at the same time. I know that sounds strange but it really is. Its a movie about friendship and gangsters.
Were in a dry period right now for DVD releases so why not check out a truly under looked classic in Miller’s Crossing.

Yeah, It always amazes me how little love this Coen Bros. flick gets compared to the other ones. Its actually in my top 10 movies of all time.
I think I might have to do a post listing my ranking of Coen Bros. flicks.
